For some time now I've been working on illustrating a series of Shyrdak tapestries with l'aviva Home. The felt works, a traditional home craft of Kyrgyzstan women, utilize intricate patterns to represent sacred myths from their culture. Laura, the woman behind l'aviva, just put together these lovely little boxes (right) with a sampling of the colors that can be used for the tapestries. Some of these patterns have been extremely challenging to illustrate (it can be almost impossible at times to tell positive from negative space) but worthwhile as it makes it possible to play around with quite a range of color combos.
