Autumn, as signaled by oak leaves falling from the trees.
Also signaled by the baking of seasonal pies. Here are two apple pies I made this weekend for the Greenmarket Apple Pie Bake-Off. It was disappointing it was to learn that that I made two loser apple pies. I should have perhaps gone the more traditional double-crust/all apple route, but I had to do something different. I do think that despite their lack of medals, they came out beautifully, and one nice lady at the Greenmarket told me that the Sour Cream Apple Pie (right) was amazing. I don't know what people had to say about the flavor on the Rustic Tart (left) but one by-stander said that it was very pretty. And it was pretty.
